Labor Day weekend

I just wanted to say hi.  We are having a busy weekend painting furniture for my 13 year olds room.  Trying to give her a more mature room.  Will post a longer post later with lots  of pictures. Here is a sneak peak.

Prayer Walk

I recently learned about a prayer walk being planned for the Millsap ISD.  I thought it was a great idea to meet and pray for the students before the new school year began.

I thought I wish someone would do that at Garner.  Then this morning it hit me why not organize it myself.  I have made several calls and I have a preacher lined up to do an opening prayer and I will contact another from a neighboring church to do a closing prayer after we walk around the campus praying for our children, school & community.  There will also be bottled water donated to refresh our participants.  I am so excited that this is coming together.

Garner Prayer Walk
Tuesday August 20th
7:00 pm

Parents, grandparents, neighbors & friends you are all invited to join us as we gather at the Garner rails to trails parking area, to walk to the school and pray over our newly remodeled building, & playground area.

We will be praying for our students, faculty & community.

I look forward to this time to get to know more of our neighbors.

Mobil blogger & Mobil seam stress

My project is at a point I don't have to be chained to the sewing machine. So when Wade said he needed to run to town I said sure I can come.
My little mobile sewing basket is perfect for in the truck. It has pockets on both sides and a pin cushion. My mom gave it to me years ago and it is great for in the car. I just lay it on the dash and away we go!

Finished hemming now that we are home time to set the waist band.

Presidents' Day sewing marathon

I am starting my first project of the day. A pair of pantaletts for the oldest. Using pajamas for the pattern.

Fabric stash

Today I dug through several tubs of fabric in my storage building. Several years ago a local fabric store went out of business and I stocked up on cotton fabrics and trims. When I finally got to the tub I was looking for I discovered the fabric I wanted was not there.

What I did find was a light blue gingham that one of the ladies church gave me. My current project is a 1840's dress for my daughter. I will try to post some pictures as a work on the dress and then a few of her as she does her Texas history presentation.

Big Changes!

I know you think I have fallen off the face of the earth.
I promise I haven't, I have been busy tying up some loose ends and some of my volunteer responsibilities.  I have been working on something and now I can finally make the announcement.
I have a new job!
Starting on July 9th I will begin working for the Comanche National Bank at the Cool Banking Center.

So the Garner Girl will be working just 4 miles from home.  I will fill you all in on the details soon, I just had to take a few minutes and share my news.

Helping others

As a lot of you know I volunteer for our local American Cancer Society's Relay for Life each year.  This year our Weatherford/Parker County Relay will be on May the 11th.

Today I got an e-mail from a lady who is a survivor of a deadly form of cancer called mesothelioma.  A cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.  Her story really touched me and helped me to realize that no matter how tired I get and how stressed I feel at times.  Nothing beats the feeling of doing good for others.
Please visit Heather's blog and read her story.  http://www.mesothelioma.com/blog/authors/heather/
I ask that you join me in praying that we can soon find a cure for cancer so no-one else has to go through the struggles Heather has faced.

What are you thankful for?

At this time of year everyone is talking about Thanksgiving, football & Black Friday Sales.
I think that we should be thankful every day for the small things.  I am thankful for a kiss from my five year old, a smile from the 11 year old.  A husband who can pop a pizza in the oven, on evenings that I am busy.  I am thankful for the nights the puppy decides to sleep all night.  Days like today when the sun is shining and the leaves are so vivid.  I am also thankful that my good friend Gay Lynn is improving and that her chemo is not making her to sick.
My life is so busy at times that I wish for simple days when I can turn off the alarm and snuggle in the cozy warm bed just a little longer.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and that you all have the opportunity to just be still and enjoy the time with those you love.
